Program Information:
Award Criteria: CU-Boulder Study Abroad Scholarships can only be used by students going on CU-Boulder study abroad programs. Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of demonstrated financial need, as described below:
Demonstrated financial need, preferably shown by providing a copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Need may also be demonstrated through information provided in the essay regarding your financial situation/need. Students must answer each question in the scholarship application thoroughly. NOTE: if you have applied for financial aid from CU-Boulder, you do not need to submit a copy of the FAFSA.
The additional criteria below may be considered in addition to demonstrated financial need:
Proof of your ability to communicate and be an effective ambassador of the University of Colorado and the United States, as illustrated by a written essay.
Academic record and/or merit, exemplified by your grade point average or other indicator of merit (merit awards are typically small, unless the applicant also demonstrates financial need).
How your program/location choice will impact your academic, professional and/or personal goals.
Deadlines: Submit the application and essay bythe deadline published (see section above) - typically the first week of October or March for the respective cycle. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application Process: Complete the on-line application by clicking the 'How to Apply' button. Follow the directions. If you have not reached the portion that requires submission of an essay, you have not completed all of the necessary steps and you should review the directions.
If you are applying for two different programs (going different terms), you should submit a separate scholarship application for each program. Scholarships are not transferable between programs, terms, or students.
Tips for applying: It is recommended that students read the scholarship "tips" that can be accessed from the online scholarship application form (once you create an application, you will see a link to the tips in the instructions section).
Award Procedures:You will receive an award notification letter on approximately April 1 or November 1.
The scholarship will be credited to your CU-Boulder bill to help pay the program fee. CU-Boulder Scholarship awards may not be used to pay the $550 program deposit.
If a study abroad scholarship causes the total aid you receive to exceed the cost of studying abroad, your other aid might be adjusted. You can check with the Office of Financial Aid after April 10 or November 10 to determine if this may be the case.
