Transcripts & Post-Program Academics

Transcripts from Abroad

Make sure you understand when and how your transcripts/grades from abroad will be issued back to CU Boulder. In many cases your transcript/grades will be issued to CU Boulder Education Abroad automatically, but for some programs it's the student's responsibility to request that they be issued. If you aren't sure what the transcript issuing policies are for your program, check your MyCUAbroad checklist or email your program manager.

If you need to request your transcripts/grades be issued, note that CU Boulder will accept and prefers electronically-issued official transcripts. These should be sent to coursesabroad@colorado.edu. If your program only issues hard copy transcripts, have these mailed to Education Abroad's address at:

University of Colorado Boulder
Education Abroad
123 UCB
Boulder CO 80309-0123

Transcripts/grades are issued at varying times - check the link below for approximate dates. Depending on the program, transcripts may arrive anywhere from a few weeks to several months after the end of the program.

Estimated Transcript Timelines

Our office will email you when we have received and posted your courses to your Degree Audit. You will be able see the courses/credit in your audit immediately. Until the courses are posted on your Degree Audit, the generic credit placeholder course will show as in-progress credit and “not applicable towards degree.”

A few days after your courses are posted in your degree audit, the overall credit amount and name of your education abroad program will be posted to your official CU Boulder transcript. The exact classes that you take abroad will not appear on your CU Boulder transcript (but will appear in your degree audit). If you need to provide your specific coursework taken abroad in the future, for example for graduate/professional school applications, you will need to request an official transcript be issued directly from your program.

What should I do if my courses are not counting as I expected?

  • If you obtained pre-approval for your major/minor requirements and your courses are not counting correctly towards your degree requirements in your degree audit, please consult your Academic Advisor(s) for assistance.

  • If you obtained pre-approval for A&S Gen Ed requirements and your courses are not counting for the relevant Gen Ed area, email coursesabroad@colorado.edu.

  • If you didn't obtain approvals for courses prior to going abroad, you can still submit courses for evaluation - but you should do so as quickly as possible. You cannot assume that the classes you took abroad will be approved and should start planning accordingly for your remaining terms at CU.

Graduation

If you are a senior, do not plan to graduate the same semester you are abroad. It usually takes too long for transcripts to be received to make the graduation deadline. Do file for graduation before leaving Boulder, but plan to graduate the semester after your program ends. For spring programs, an August graduation may or may not be possible - check your program's approximate dates for issuing transcripts and then connect with your Program Manager about your options.

Students may still be able to still participate in the graduation ceremony if you are on track to meet your final requirements and your program ends in time for you to return to Boulder for the ceremony.
